This is the database that keeps the history of the Lineages of Peers within Belegarth. The intent of the page name change was that the page could grow to include Guild Masters, Warmaster, Kensmen, Knights, Dragoons, and all other Peerages, should they be created and should they wish to be included. At this time, some of the Monster Peers wish to keep their information separate from this page. If you are looking for that information, you can find it here: Monster Titles

This page is organized by lineage and not necessarily by realm. We suspect that some of the lineages may date back to Dagorhirian times. If anyone has any additional information or corrections, please either fill out the Google Form OR contact Dragoon Antoinette at antoinette@belegarth.com so that it may be added.

In keeping with the History of Peerage in Belegarth written by Dragoon Antoinette the Moosewitch, this page has been reorganized to match. This means the first 6 lines are in order by creation date. Following that, the next 8 lines are all descended from The Lineage of Middle Earth and Western Belegarth. After that, the lines are arranged from largest to smallest by current (as of April 2026) size.

KENSMAN

The rank of Kensmen is a title regarding combat and warfare. All Kensmen meet certain requirements for combat skill, tactics, combat leadership, melee ability, battlefield awareness, stealth and endurance. All Kensmen conduct themselves according to the Way of the Kensmen at all times, one of honor and of traditions known only to them. The noble brotherhood of the Kensmen was first created by Kensmen Balynar the Elder and Kensmen Iskandar the Grim in Gwynedd in 1982. This heretofore unheard-of honour was first bestowed on Iskandar the Grimm. For this reason, he is called the All-Father of the Kensmen.

Note: There is a reason for the spelling difference in the title. The majority of this line, with the spelling of Kensmen, can be found in foam fighting (Belegarth or Dag). When Iskander had his vision, it was for knowledge. Ken means to expand one's knowledge and to share that knowledge. Today, Kensmen who are Kensed by the written Code of the Kensmen in foam fighting use Ken to honour the lineage. Those with the spelling of Kinsmen are mostly found in the SCA, and most of those titled within the SCA are done at Pennsic. They, to the best of our understanding, do not have a written code. They changed the spelling of Ken to Kin to mean 'family'. They only recite their lineage back to Kinsmen Thorvald the Redd.

BASTARD KNIGHTS OF NUMENOR

If you have never heard this term before, you are likely thinking, “Well, that's rude.” However, it is what they call themselves. It is the term used to describe knights who are descendants of a Knight of Numenor, but they are not from the realm of Numenor themselves.

Per Sir Kegg of Westfield, 2nd Knight of Numenor, oldest still active Knight of Numenor: “The first bastard was Sir Carneohthan, who squired to Sir Angmarth after he moved to St. Louis. There was quite a bit of discussion at the time about whether he belonged on the banner. Sir Carneohthan had been a Numenorean for years before moving to St. Louis and squiring to Sir Agmarth. The decision was no. Someone who opposed called Sir Carneohthan a bastard knight. The name took.”

As it stands currently, there are forty-three (43) Bastard Knights of Numenor. Of that forty-three(42), thirty-five (36) of them are ultimately descendants of Sir Kegg of Westfield. Of the remaining seven (7) knights, two (2) are descendants of The Great Sir Kyrian Hawksword, Patron Saint of Belegarth, four (4) are descendants of Sir Raymond Spikes, and one (1) is a descendant of Sir Hubris, Tar-Mairon Anarion.
