When Sigurd was born his family was visited by a stranger wearing gray robes and a pointed hat. He told Amund that when Sigurd came of age he was to be sent to Vestfold to be mentored by Dag Ormseeker, a famous skald and rune-wise wizard. Amund did as told and Sigurd was educated by Dag in the rune ways as well as in combat by his father.

Sigurd spent more time in the forests of Romarike than anywhere else. None new the land better then he and none were better hunters. It came that one winter a great storm blew a troll down from the Jotunheim mountains. The winter was so bad that many farms lost contact with the rest of the community. When the spring thawed they locals found that nearly a score of people had been eaten by a troll named Rjodbrand. Sigurd was chosen to track the beast and lead a band of Danish heroes to slay it. When they found Rjodbrand the troll struck down the Dane's leader and they fled. Only Sigurd and his old friend Visund stood against him. While Visund wrestled the troll to the ground Sigurd grabbed the troll's sword, Ithrund - the only weapon able to pierce the beast's hide - and stabbed him through, pinning him to the ground and killing him.

Sigurd spent more time in the forests of Romarike than any and new the lay of land better then most animals. It came that one winter a great storm blew down from the north - the worst in living memory. The winter was so bad that many farms were snowed in with no contact with the rest of the community. When the world warmed enough for travel, the farms were found deserted. Their inhabitants and livestock slaughtered. The culprit was a well known troll named Rjodbrand that lived in a hidden alcove deep in the forest. A local hothead named Torgeir volunteered to slay the beast in retribution but the only person who had ever seen the troll's living place was Sigurd. Ordered by the chief, Sigurd and ten other youths joined the war party. When Rjodbrand was confronted, he leaped forward crushing Torgeir immediately. Afterwards all save Sigurd and his old friend Visund had fled. While Visund wrestled the troll to the ground Sigurd grabbed the troll's sword, Ithrund - the only weapon able to pierce the beast's hide - and stabbed him through, pinning him to the ground and killing him.

Shortly after Sigurd left home to seek his own fame and glory. He came to Trondelag where his uncle Bjarni arranged him transport to England. Sigurd hoped to join the war band of the Great Heathen Army which had warred in England since Ragnar Lodbrok's death some years earlier. It came that Sigurd was in Ubbe Ragnarsson's army when Ubbe fell and his raven banner was captured by the Saxons. Sigurd was ashamed that he had not fallen beside his chief and prayed to Odin for guidance. A stranger then appeared by the fire and gave him the furry hide of a wolf. He said, "Tomorrow is a Hunter's Moon. At nightfall you will transfrom into a wolf. Go into the Saxon's fort and you will retrieve the raven banner." Sigurd did as the stranger said and retrieved the banner and killed Ubbe's killer, Odda of Devon who was commander of the Saxon army. The next day a party of mounted warriors tracked him back to his camp where he and a few other Norsemen took refuge. There was a Christian priest with them who claimed Sigurd to be possessed by the devil and could transform into a wolf at will. Sigurd did not deny the priest. The armed party attacked but the Vikings were able to defeat them despite being outnumbered. Sigurd then drowned the priest in the nearby river. From then on Sigurd was known to be a Úlfhéðnar, or a warrior blessed by Odin to fight with the cunning ferocity of a wolf and who could transform into one at the will of Odin.

Turns out this was no troll rather he was an ogre. The Norse are unaware of the differences between trolls, ogres, orks, or goblins. This ogre explained many things to Sigurd because (much to Sigurd's suprise) he was part ogre. The ogre could tell by the look and smell that Sigurd was one of his kin. Sigurd abdicated chieftainship of his boat and joined the ogres in the wilderness to learn more of monsterkind (if they don't eat him first).

  • Marshal of Tir Asleen (2012-present)

Unit:
Other Affiliations: formerly of The Húskarlar

About: Sigurd has a way with names and lore and has come to know many more people than even more experienced fighters. Sigurd is always willing to learn how to better his combat and arsenal. He is a loyal warrior. Like any good Norseman, Sigurd ignores the cold. You may recognize him by his war paint - before battle Sigurd reddens his beard in preparation for the fight to come. Also, you may see his six-foot greatsword, Ithrund.

Sigurd grew up in Ormsgard in the north alongside his kinsman, Visund. Although they do not share blood Visund is as a brother to him.

Lore: Sigurd was born the second child and only son of Amund Geirmundson in 860. Amund was born in Trondelag but had settled in Romarike after meeting Sigurd's mother. Amund had many adventures in his youth including sailing with Bjorn Ironsides on the great raid of Rome. After his return Amund settled becoming a farmer and carpenter. He was often commissioned to build for Harald Finehair, the king, in Oslo.

Sigurd despised the remaining Viking kings in England, all of which had abandoned the gods and turned to the White Christ. So he and his small band of warriors built a ship and began to sail and raid their way back to Norway. Along the way they were distracted by tales of glory to be found in Iceland. After departing the Faroes a great storm blew their vessel many hundreds of miles south of Iceland where they found another isle. As Sigurd would discover it was the home of the Birdpeople, the Isle of Wind and Bone. Sigurd mapped the island and agreed to take one of their own aboard. The pluckling named Cyrano. Before leaving the Ilse he raided a mining village filling his boat with gemstones and food.

After a month at sea sailing against the winds the crew at last came to Iceland. While exploring the countryside Sigurd met another troll (or so he thought).
