Ash Of Grayscale

His small chamber overflowed with baubles, shiny pebbles, and forgotten treasures, each one cherished more than the last. One day he vanished without a trace, leaving behind the only evidence of his existence: his beloved jester's hat. Ash had simply disappeared through a forgotten magic in one of his countless items. Speculators have reasoned it was a cursed hourglass or a fae-touched pocket watch. What is known is that he had slipped through the fabric of time itself.

Lost in the currents of history, the isolation and endless shifting through eons warped his mind and form. Once a humanoid Jester, he re-emerged as a purple Hat-Troll, never to be seen without his head covered, for they are rumored to die if their head is exposed to the Day Star.

Through centuries of relentless searching and time-bending travel, the Hat Troll's legend grew. Their quests were so disruptive, their chaotic pursuit of artifacts so potent, that he twice stumbled into prophesied events that required the assembly of the High Council of High Wizards. In those rare instances, the wizards found themselves grudgingly relying on Ash’s bizarre knowledge of temporal anomalies and lost artifacts.

Eventually, his treasure hunting led him to the high seas, where he made acquaintances with a notorious pirate crew who were rumored to be after the exact same bounty: a legendary, time-stopping compass hidden on a shifting, forgotten island. Ash saw the pirates first as rivals, but grew to be potential allies in his eternal quest. He forged bonds with the unconventional crew, drawn to their shared, singular focus on wealth and adventure.

After growing close to the crew and hearing tales of their spectral existence, Ash asked to sail with Grayscale on their legendary undead ship. He craved a way to ensure he would never have to end his voyage of treasure hunting while, finally, surrounded by a chosen family of eternal marauders.
