Tribes generally denote a smaller grouping in a Unit, usually based on geographical location. Most commonly used by monster units such as Horde or Uruk-Hai.
Examples include:
Bone Knife Goblin Tribe
Grik'nahr Tribe
Kei'uptik Tribe, The Keepers of the Pines
Skera Nipt Tribe
