Mordor

Mordor is a Foam Swordfighting Realm based in Loveland, Colorado.
We were founded in 2001 by Shadow, Attila and Magus of the Dark Angels. They came upon the name during a dicussion on the way to Chaos Wars that summer. With the Rocky Mountains towering beside us, we feel it is a very fitting name. We fight next to Lake Loveland, and joke that it's Mordor's Sea of Nurnen. Mordor rose in part from the ashes of Seldon's defunct Fort Collins foam swordfighting group.
Mordor strongly encourages evil characters befitting of our name. Orcs, Goblyns, Bugbears, Drow elves etc. But Humans are still welcome. We barely ever do any roleplay on the field anyway. Normal battle days include mostly two team melee's, kill your killer warm ups, and capture the flag/fort battles. We've been told we fight with a Dark Angel style. Lots of flanking and wrap shots. We can thank Shadow, Attila, Kato and Dkini for that. Even though 3 of them have since moved on, you can still tell they left an impression.
The first winter was rough, with only 4 or 5 fighters showing up. But with Spring came new recruits. Our record attendance was in the Spring of 2003, 53. Last Sunday we had 26 fighters, including 3 Amtgarders from the Iron Mountains. Local Amtgard/Belegarth relations are going very well as of late. The average ages of our fighters are between 18-23.
This year Mordor helped to run the Colorado Medieval Festival in June and August. Our members helped with set up, tear down, security, ticket sales, and demo's. We won the ribbon for best group there. We intend to volunteer again in the future.
We're also working on an application for non-profit status.
Weekly battles include members of a national unit, The Dark Angels. As well as many members of a local unit, The Army of Mordor.
