My imagination runs wild like a stallion on PCP, and I prefer my perception of Bel/Dag happening in a futuristic world rather than an archaic one. If this offends you or makes you uncomfortable, just mentally block out the parts about airships and replace "star systems" with "realms". I have faith in your ability to do this.

Since mankind fled earth into the newly colonized galaxies, it has slipped slowly into a return to aristocracy and corruption. Court intrigue and dark plots, carried out by the unseen hands of court bladesmen and mercenaries alike, rule the star systems, creating a web of chaos and  unnoticed by the peasantry and hounded by the royal guard in equal measure.

Just as equally has the decline in morality heralded a new technological order. Starships the size of moons are commonplace hanging over the many galactic ports, and the smaller jumpcraft that roam to and fro are even more ubiquitous. To be lauded a great jump pilot is an honor above royal decree, signifying a place above all the other billions of flyers on a singe planet alone. Even more commendable (and notorious) are the pirates, bandits and privateers that pursue jumpers and predate their cargo holds.

To spite this threat, the monarchy instated the Revenant Corps: A three score battalion of the best boarding repellers her majesty’s navy has to offer, disguised as merchant sailors and sent to counteract the bandit threat.

Weaponry, like the culture, has slipped into a state of decadence and past glorification as well. As projectile weapons increased in lethality to the point of hand-held cataclysms, the practice of projectile weaponry was abandoned for the athletic test of skill still found in melee combat. As front-lines continued to give away to espionage and counter-surveillance, the prevalence for “killing courts” expanded: Ballrooms, tourney floors and battle stages where single-man combat determined the rule of entire dynasties. Through victory or assassination the lower castes were able to earn places at their chosen noble’s table, via appointment as court assassin or gladiator. Mercenary corps, and the fields that support their work, are now the primary industry.

It is in this world that the once jump-pilot Karkus Lastborn finds himself rising. Having lived coursing through the narrow shipping channels of Forhirion at breackneck pace, Lastborn was a pilot of some repute until he ventured to the Asleen system for military training as a Revenant Corpsman. While on the capitol planet of Tir Asleen he was exposed to the wildling legion known infamously as The Horde. While refusing offers to join their criminal ranks, Karkus retained their mentoring in the way of line fighting and skirmishing upon the courts’ floors, even at one point working directly under the tutelage of the Mekoot Darvax.

After having graduated from the Revenant Corps’s academy, Karkus returned to Forhirion and threw in with the bandit’s of the Frozen North, led by the Joker King Rav. There Karkus raided and fought valiantly alongside his bandit brothers for glory and gains, eventually earning an unofficial seat amongst their “officers”.

+
Fate was not kind then to Lastborn, when during a raid against the knight Sir Chiron’s forces he suffered a grievous injury in a duel with the Sir himself. While Forhirion’s best healers toiled to save him, the injuires he sustained resulted in the loss of his right leg and subsequent cybernetic replacement. To this day Karkus’s limp is a trademark sign listed in Royal Guard wanted postings.
+

+
Still hunted by Chiron’s legion’s, Karkus fled Forhirion for the industrial planet of Fugl Brenna in the Phoenix system. There, amongst the solar grids and metal foundries, Karkus rallys support and fighters against the Royal Navy. His motives unknown, his blades and his flying skill yet still equally precise, and his trail of bodies ever growing, he is yet the worst enemy the Revenant Corps has ever seen: One of their own making.

Background (Lore TL;DR)

Karkus began fighting with Tir Asleen in the fall of 2011 and loved every minute of it, so much so he attended the local Halloween Event that year at TA under the name Stearling. Soon after however, his college requirements became too much to allow for extra-curricular activities, and he opted out of Bel for the next three years. He took the field again in January of 2015 again with the Tir Asleen before shortly moving back home to Minneapolis that summer.

Upon arriving he joined up with the Frozen North and fought until late November, when he exacerbated a pre-existing knee injury. After four months of surgery and physical therapy, Karkus was finally able to take the field again just in time to move south for work.

As of April 2016 Karkus joined on with the fledgling realm of Fugl Brenna in Phoenix, Arizona, where he currently resides. During his time there Karkus has been instrumental in organizing the government for the realm as their membership grew and evolved. His role within the organization proved successful when he presided over the elections of the realm's council members. Now Karkus is focused on creating an elite corps of fighters within his Hold of the realm, his success or failure to be determined soon...
