Some people feel that even using the thumb at all is a bad idea. Instead, they hold that the palm or flat four fingers should be used. The extra surface area insures that foam will remain intact. This meathod also more accurately simulates the kinds of surfaces that commonly come into contact with the foam such as arms or torsos.
