Not much is known about the one called Zane. Some say he's simply a seasoned traveller, others attach legends to him, such as those from the East about the Monkey King Sun Wukong ... or of Western lands, like Till Eulenspiegel and Coyote. What *is* known is that he came from the North, bringing with him a sage's wisdom and a swath of chaos ....

His tales are endless, but only his most recent are known to all. This is but a recounting of what everyone already knows ...

He walked silently from the frozen North, seeking shelter at a local inn near Dur Demarion. With naught a look to the keep, he tossed a coin and disappeared to the first open room. The next day, he was gone before checkout was called. Days later, folks in the town spoke in hushed tones of a wild beast or ragged man goblins and fighting anything that moved in the bog. Others spoke of pranks and tricks on the nobles and commoners. Months went on like this. Everyone knew it was the stranger, but no one could prove it.

From time to time, the stranger had very short conversations with the locals, and from what they could gather, his name was Zane. Little did they know they were pronouncing it wrong, but no matter, as he answered to it anyway. Of the conversations Zane had with the townspeople, these comprised only a fraction of those he had overall, for you see, he loved to talk to himself.... a lot..... in ancient tongues and animal noises... And to taunt... A LOT. The people thought him mad, and called him Insane because of it. Zane liked his new moniker!

Yet, still a couple years went by that no one knew much about him. Was he elven? Human? Some kind of elvenhumanorhybridthing? What they do know is that he flew under the banner of the pirate ship and port town Antiva for a spell (He even looked like a pirate elf ... sort of). He must have gotten traction, because his name and likeness were regaled from Griffin's Reach in the South to Anduril in the North.  Many became friends and enemies (sometimes at the same time. Yay, frenemies!).

Unfortunately, industry and politics would make Antiva a ghost town, and so Zane got bored. Mostly, he liked the people of the sequestered Sage Hill. A dragon named Kai of house Morikayun gave him respite when needed (sometimes without choice :D ), and he eventually became a fixture there. He traveled even farther to Eastwind Castle several times, and even made an excursion North once! Oh, how he loved to prank and beat on the unsuspecting :) . It was then he began to work on his "book of wisdom" (oooh, shiny). Little known to the common folk, Zane was quite verbose and sagacious himself, though he chose the path of frivolity and mischief more than most thinkers. And so was born the comprehensive, yet not-oft-read Tao'Aah ...

Over the years, he would acquire other names from secret societies and those who would chide him for his tomfoolery.

On a trip back to Dur Demarion, to play with the natives there, Zane happened upon a curious flying ship full of wonderous beings, a flying marvel called Vorshen. They did not know what to make of him, particularly because they were in mid-flight when he showed up! Wanting to kick off the boredom once again, he set sail with them. He would still disappear from time to time (while they flew!), and only sailed with them when the wind blew just right. They liked to keep him around for his battle prowess and jokes, but sometimes grew weary of them as well. No matter, for Zane always felt welcome.

All the while, other realms became known via trade routes and emissaries from their lands. Zane took in many of them, such as the Emerald Academy, Eastwind Castle, Uldahnia, and even Wolfpack of the High Plains.

Shortly thereafter, the dragon Kai made for the Northern lands, seeking better treasure there. On debarking, Kai made Zane promise (Oh, how he hated these, for he could not break them) to tend to the citizens therein. Zane promised to keep the fires lit, and that Sage Hill shall not die under his watch ...
