Barl is an average fighter, specializing in short swords. His style has become known in his realm as "Pirate Fighting". He is one of two Officers in Valhalla under Suiken, and has a love of weapon creation and repair. He is also a close friend of Tir na nOg's Tweak. Barl is also noted as being the most frequently injured person in his realm, with at least three sprains and countless minor injuries since his beginnings in mid-2008.
