Lore

Rising From Ashes: Somewhere in a land whose name has been lost to time a forest that has stood for centuries burns brightly in the night, and in its confines a creature awakens for the first time. From an unseen place a voice only one hears calls out: “Void”. Over and over, realizing that for the first time it could hear but something else was beginning to drown out the word, the sound of roaring fire. The smell of smoke and ash filled its nose as its body began to wake, the taste of smoke filling its mouth as well.  The world burst into color not seen often at night, a clash of dark reds and bright oranges to a blackened sky as the smoke swirled above the tree tops. Without warning though came the last sensation, a deep, unholy burning. Realizing its body was burning was the final surge the creature needed to rise and dash. Moving through the forest, feeling the flames crawling all across their body, it ran for its life, its only thought to make the searing pain end. Leaping over fallen trees, burning foliage and the destruction around it, the creature broke through the flames, launching itself toward what it thought was a clearing. Only for it to fall into the water of the lake, and in that instant, the creature learned what relief was, the burning gone. As the creature emerged from the water, it looked toward the tree line it broke through, and saw the destruction that befell its place of awakening. looking up the creature saw the clear darkened sky, chock full of stars and a moon that easily outglows the fires below it. Finally looking down the creature saw itself: a body burnt and blackened, coated in ash, the bones in its arms and legs showing, darkened in the water before it. Its face… was something else, a deer skull, carved with symbols it did not know, with antlers that stood tall and proud. It had no idea what it was, why it was here or where it was.. but it did know one thing, it wanted answers, and it wanted them badly.

Slowly trudging through the water, the creature moved onto the dry land, opposite the scorched forest and for a brief moment it sat and watched the forest burn as the moon hung high over head.
