No [[Elves|Night Elf]] had ever been known to have hatred in their heart, for hatred is the way of the [[Elves|Dark Elves]], the twisted servants of the shadow. None except one, [[Harbainian]]. It started after the 30-year war with the [[Lich King of Grasser]]. After the war, instead of bringing the [[lich]] back to face the justice of the tribunal, [[Harbainian]] had him killed, and put on display along with his minions all across the border. Not long after, [[Harbainian]] began to lead raids on the dark lands. Rather than waiting for an attack, they took the battle to the shadow by attacking known dens and camps. He lay siege to shadow towns and razed them to the ground. He was no longer content with preserving the light; it was time to destroy the shadow. His army grew. Filled with his holy zeal the attacks continued and became fiercer. The shadow began to recede. Lands once thought lost to the shadow forever were being reclaimed. It seemed as though the shadow would finally be driven back into the abyss, but it was not to be. The elders had begun to question [[Harbainian|Harbainian's]] motives. They feared what lay in his heart. The order was sent for him to return to the capital so he came back and brought with him his commanders Lord [[Abberant]], Lord [[Loklamone]], and [[Harbainian|Harbainian's]] wife Lady [[Catalaise]]. He was brought before the elders and as they had feared, they found hatred, a deep-seated hatred for the shadow. [[Harbainian]] was brought before the tribunal and banished to the shadow land; as they saw it, that was where he now belonged because hatred had no place in the light. He accepted his banishment, taking with him only his armor and his axes. He rode into the shadow land to find his death, and it found him not long after. Two legions of foul shadowspawns were marching towards the borders. He saw the columns stretching back into the distance and knew his end was near. As he began to march towards them, a mighty dragon flew overhead - a dragon darker than coal, a [[Shadow Dragon]]. [[Harbainian]] stood stunned at the skill of this dragon; its ferocity tore a swath through the foul troops, slaying hundreds in seconds. He was even more surprised to hear the battle cry of his old army behind him. His commanders had followed him into the shadow lands and brought all who were loyal to the cause with them. They joined in the combat with the dragon, chasing down all that tried to flee. There were no foul survivors. Inspired by the tenacity of this dragon they sought to learn from it, to learn its ways. So together they marched into the shadow to bring the light where it was needed. This was the birth of [[Vanguard|The Vanguard]].

The Vanguard at Spring War '06
Rank Structure
Each member of The Vanguard is ranked according to his skill and valor starting with the lowly Acolyte all the way to the mighty Dragon Lord himself.
Non-Combatant
Acolyte
- The Acolytes of the Vanguard are devoted souls who, for whatever reason, are unable to fight. Some are too old, others too young, some have taken vows of non aggression. All creatures of the light are welcome to seek shelter within the Vanguard camps, and many do. The Acolytes serve as armorers, weapons crafters, and also scribes.
Interim
Broodling
- Broodlings are the lowest rank of fighters. They are the untested troops who have yet to see real combat. There are never very many Broodlings in the army, For after their first battle they are either promoted or dead.
Full Members
Shadow Guard (3rd, 2nd , & 1st class)
- The bulk of the Vanguard army. These are highly trained, heavily armored warriors. Skilled in multiple forms of combat, they are deadly with any type of weapon.
Shadow Reaver (3rd, 2nd , & 1st class)
- These are the elite soldiers. The proud few who have set themselves apart from the rest throught skill of arms and valor in combat.
Command Structure
Brood Master
- Each Squadron of troops has a Brood Master. The Brood Master keeps the squad on track and relay the orders of the drake. They are former Shadow Reavers who showed potential for leadership and strategy.
Drake Guard
- Each Drake has a Drake Guard. The Drake Guard is the master of arms, the best of the best with any weapon. Give him a target and the target is dead.
Drake
- The Drakes are the commanders of the Vanguard army. Each Drake controls their own squad of troops.
Dragon Lord
- The Dragon Lord is the General of the Vanguard army. He also controls his own squad of troops.
