A Poof Football, also commonly (incorrectly) called a Nerf Football is a Poof brand foam football, commonly sold at Wal*Mart for ~$2-3. They are very firm, and are usually two bright colors.
The foam in a POOF football is a very dense, relatively heavy white open cell foam which can be used in projectile weapons.
Nerf footballs come in two sizes, small and large. A single small nerf football can be used for a small-profile spear-tip, while a large Nerf football can either be used for multiple stabbing tips (2-3, particularly well suited for glaives)or alone as a deep, large-profile spear tip. The small Nerf footballs are poorly suited for use on a glaive tip without looking quite strange.
Before use, the pointy ends need to be trimmed off (to pass the 2.5" rule), and the harder plastic ridge along the seam should be removed as well. The rest of the plastic "skin" can be left on or removed.
Due to the advent of Ensolite in weapon construction, POOF balls are used much less often today than in the past.
