Murder Mask

Murder Masks are a common form of Belegarth armor. They consist of a half-face mask, covering the nose and the lower half of the face. They almost exclusively tend to be made from armor grade leather. They often look like "ninja masks," sharing much in common with the ninja masks in the Mortal Combat video games. They are similar to ski half-face masks, and Japanese samurai menpo/mempo.

Murder masks gained popularity in the late 2000s, primarily in the Babylon Empire, and became popular enough that by late 2010 commissions were being taken on the Belegarth forums.

Rules Legality

Occasionally the legality of murder masks as a stand alone piece of armor has been raised, based on rule "3.6.3. Armor must cover at least one-third of a target area." However it was determined through the power of MATH! that most murder masks covered the required 1/3 coverage area (if just barely), and further fulfilled the at-the-time rules that armor had to cover "approximately" 1/3 of a target area.

Things still to be done

Why are they called Murder Masks?

Were murder masks in use anywhere else before Babylon Empire? Were they common, if yes? (The first time it was posted on the Belegarth forums it was from PacNW fighters.)

  • Atman was one of the first people to own one in Iowa, and the earliest record I can find is from 2011. - Galya

Pictures needed. (Many members of Catalyst and God Squad wear or wore murder masks; they might be a good place to start looking for pics. Particularly Aleksii, Acorn, Rocca, and Huma.)
