Lore

A dead body given life again by dark powers. Often such a creature is someone of high rank and great power striving for eternal life through the use of dark forces to bind their consciousness to various phylactery and thereby achieve a form of immortality. Unlike zombies, which are often depicted as mindless, part of a hivemind or under the control of another, a lich retains independent thought and is as intelligent as it was prior to its transformation. Liches are always powerful magic users and are often created through various schools of magic such as necromancy, hexcraft, black magic, Vooo Doo ect. Liches use these Magiks to access the Astral Plane, a cold and desolate void where Geist travel from the Material plane of the living to whatever afterlife awaits them. Through the Astral Plane liches can bind Geist to various corses creating undead hordes to do their bidding.

The Sigil of the Lich

The Sigil of the Lich is a ancient glyph worn by all who claim the title of lich. The lemniscate Represents a Lich's desire to be infinite lifeforms, roaming for all eternity neither living or dead, knowing that every friend you make and everyone you ever loved will die before you do, and accepting you will see civilizations rise and fall. The eye represents a liches intellect and a liche's ability to stare at the void of death itself. The Star Represents the Astral Plane and a liches ability to tap into it's cosmic energies that empower their spellcraft. The Sigil itself was created by the very embodiment of death itself said to appear as a Raven, rumored to have been born when the first murder was committed. The Creature giften mankind with the Sigil when a mortal wished to return their loved one's soul to the material plain. The Sigil itself is used as a sort of companion peice to a liches phylacter, binding the soul inside to the body marked by the corresponding sigil. due to it's nature in ancient history, the sigil of the lich is found in all schools of magic. So while some liches began their origins in a castle under the training of a powerful warlock, and some on small island villages under the instruction of a witch doctor, all Liches know of the Sigil it's power, it's meaning and it's origin.

Lore

Stars:

Entry 1

While testing out a new ocular device on Olympus Mons, I had noticed that a star had suddenly burnt out. Being head scientist of my colony, I decided it best to approach our cheiftain with the situation. Displeases and frightended by this discovery, the Cheiftain has asked me to investigate.

Entry 13

13 star systems, completely wiped out. While all investigated star systems have been shown to be flourishing with life, it would appear all life on these system's planets have been extinguished. Further investigations have shown that whatever destroyed these star systems has been travelling very far for a very long time.

Entry 66

After months of attempting to track the entity killing these star systems, further research and study has told me that the thing destorying these planets is some form of cosmic entity that raises the planet's dead matter to consume all remaining living matter. Based on the Entitie's previous tragectory I can safely assume it will reach our Star System within the next 100 years. Procautionary measures must be taken to ensure the existence of life thoughout the Stars, or I fear this entity will one day consume all that lives.

Nothing:

Much of my life has been dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge. That knowledge has protected my village well. I am blessed my people's respect, and although they call me a sage, there are many things I've yet to learn. This morning while meditating, a raven spoke to me. The creature told me of a great power that gave men the ability to conquer death. I asked the creature how to attain this power, but The Beast only laughed. He told me that this would only be given to those willing to sacrifice all for the sake of knowledge and power. I asked the creature to elaborate, But the creature only smiled. It was at this moment I felt my lung empty and the air heavy. Everything faded to darkness. There was nothing. I was nothing. In the darkness I heard the Raven's voice. It told that it would return to offer me this power once again when I returned to this realm. When I awoke the Raven was gone, but the message was clear. To conquer death in others, I must first die for myself. What does this mean? What was this Raven that spoke to me? What does it want? As leader of this village, I must find the answers.

Morality:

I have made a grave mistake. I had been studying the concepts of healing spells and death. This was prompted by my youngest apprentice seeing visions of a large raven-like entity. He claimed this entity was telling him the secrets of ressurection. After many sleepless nights he convinced me to help study these visions and attemp to decipher the entitie's messages. My other apprentices were more than eager to assist in this task, as most young curious minds would. Convinced by my young apprentices, I constructed a massive laboratory in the basement of our tower. Unbeknownst to me, my apprentices then began collecting live subjects on which to perform dangerous experiments. As soon as I found out, I gathered my apprentices and ordered them to cease their research. It would appear that all subjects of experimentation were ressurected, but as ravenous decaying monsters. I confined these creatures within the lab below the tower, hoping that these dark secrets would never be revealed. I asked my apprentices to leave me, and never return. Brokenheartedly, they did as I commanded one final time. What had happened within the souls of my beloved apprentices? While pursuing the mystery mortality, could they have fallen unto the dark path? The Creatures that crawl beneath the tower... I can still feel the guilt of their tortured souls shambling beneath me even as i write this. Are they the result of returning that which is dead to the world of the living? Or some unfortunate mistake of nature? I was a fool for allowing this disgusting research to take place. We are not meant to play with the fabric of life and death, no matter what our reasons for doing so...

Requirements

A lich empowering a phylactery with their essence.

Garb Requirements:

  • phylactery: Items of the lich's choosing into which they imbue their soul, giving them immortality until the phylactery is destroyed.
  • Liches are often decayed and wear more skeletal undead facepaint. (resembling the face they had in life, white/grey for pinkies races, dulled colors for non-human/monster races.)
  • on the battlefield Liches wear white skull helmets with the Sigil of the Lich on the helms forehead. (should resemble the skull of your race, Kobolds should have reptilian shaped skulls, Elves should have pointed ears, Tieflings should have horns ect.)
  • Liches are known to carry around a staff. often covered with dark artifacts, gemstones, runes and bones.
  • All Liches are magic users and often dreesed according to their school of magic such as necromancy, Arcane, Abyssal, Eldrich, Vooo Doo ect.
  • All Liches carry a dark grimoire through which their spells and studies can be documented.
  • Liches often wear many bones, shrunken heads, teeth and other dead things in their garb.
  • Like most magic casters, liches much wear a spell component pouch in order to spellcast. Their pouch is marked with the Sigil of the Lich.
  • all liches bare the Sigil of the Lich somewhere on their garb or painted on their body.

Lich King/Queen Requirements:

  • lead or found a unit of at least 10 men.
  • lead or found an active Belegarth/Dagorhir legal realm.
  • Adhere to ALL required physical traits at events.
  • have active attendence at practices and events.
  • lich kings cannot hold official title of lich king over more than one realm at a time. This is not to say you cannot lead more than one realm, this only means your official title would just read "Lich King of *your main realm*". You may claim Lich king title over a unit/kingdom/alliance of realms instead, however this is entirely up to that group's leadership if they will allow that Lich King to claim Kinghood within their group. two Lich Kings can not hold soverign rule over the same realms/kingdoms/alliances/units at the one time. Title of Lich king is held until character death or resignation from the title. the title of Lich King does not give you power over any realm/unit/kingdom/alliance, it is simply a title of honor for your dedication to the sport and a goal for the Lich community to strive for.

Known Liches:

Lich King Theron - King of Fortriu, Theron is a Tiefling born in the portside town of Rubacava located in Blackfish Bay.
