Legend of Jari

Oni tribes and clans were first most populous in an island far away from where many live today, the island's name lost to time. Some long time ago The Oni clans were wiped out from that island. Many believe that they became to powerful and their presence and intentions to well known, and a united uprising smothered the Oni clan, and sent them all back to Hell, deliberately forgetting their True Names in the process. Only recently was one particularly wicked soul picked out by The Hell Oni to repopulate a new land with Oni. His Oni name was Jari, the sound effect for fear when a powerful enemy enters an area.

Ironically, Jari did not know the language of The Hell Oni, and was never taught the definition of wickedness. Regardless, a ritual was performed that granted Jari life back among the living and was granted a tetsubo, a greatclub covered in metal studs; a traditional piece of any Oni arsenal. Jari sought out masters that could teach him the way of great weapon fighting, as he knew nothing of the sort. Fortunately for him, Jari encountered a tribe of nomadic Ogres and, even though Jari was green, The Ogres were hospitable enough to accept him as one of them, and aided him in his tutelage of combat.

It did not take long for Jari to learn of his great weakness, however. One morning, Jari awoke to find that he had overslept, and the overly nomadic Ogres had already gone on without him. Jari quickly learned about his horrible sense of direction as an Oni and could never find the tribe that had helped him. Jari had never thanked the Ogres for his training properly, and found himself particularly guilty as he found that he had turned blue overnight, implying that he had become proficient with his tetsubo with the aid of the Ogres. As a result, many Oni are quick to respect Ogres, in an attempt to pay off Jari's debt.

Jari, not knowing the limitations of wickedness, and overly cocky with his newfound skills, simply sought out the destruction of a nearby village, and swiftly got himself killed and returned to Hell. Before The Hell Oni could be angry with him, Jari was summoned by a pinky bard who accidentally spoke his true name whilst storytelling, as the bard knew Jari in his Pinky life. Incidentally, his summoning caused the tavern the bard was in at the time to be destroyed. The bard, known as Léal, created a pact with Jari, to summon him whenever he died, in return for mercenary work. His service to Léal taught him humility and lead to a more conservative manner of evil.

Some time later, The Hell Oni realized that Jari was at the mercy of someone who summoned him at his whim, took away his right to a tetsubo, as no Oni should ever be a servant. Jari went on a rampage, as he knew not why he was being punished by his brethren, and stole a sword and a shield from a guard that he killed and decimated a town with them. He learned that even though his new arsenal was not nearly as powerful nor destructive as his tetsubo, the shield allowed him to survive longer, and cause more destruction over time. He realized that even a shield can be used for destruction, by simply protecting the source of destruction. Rumor speaks of an affair with a Khajiit female, to help Jari cope with his shame at the time.

Ashamed, alienated, and distraught, Jari begged Léal for help. Using a book full of sketches that Léal kindly offered him, and not so kindly killed Jari so he may return to Hell with the book, Jari began communicating with The Hell Oni to learn why he was being punished. Since then, as The First Oni of the new land, he collaborated with Léal to write down some of the history and values of The Oni, as well as an explanation of their colorful hierarchy. Since then, Jari learned of his mistakes and learned to become a True Oni, devoted to wickedness and the expansion of his own clan.

As of now he is a Blue Oni and is aspiring to create a clan of Oni, so he may take the trials to become Red with other Oni witnesses
