Lore

As the skies turned to black and the skies filled with the echoes of thunder, emerged from the fields of Folkvangr atop golden winged steeds rode the Valkyries. Fed up with the false king Odin, Freyja stood with her fiercest warriors on the plains to shatter the forsaken halls of Valhalla. Upon arrival, the valkyries stood eye to eye with Odin himself. As the valkyries ready their arms and march forward, a horn blows in the distance. The valkyries begin to plummet to the ground one by one. As their heads strike the fields surrounding the gilded halls, the souls of the Valkyries are thrown to the depths of helheim. But one Valkyrie was able to stand through the bellowing of the horn. She stood tall in front of Odin, as he readied Gungnir. This Valkyrie knew her fate, once the spear is cast it no does not miss its target. She braced behind her shield as Odin launched it through the air. But moments before the Valkyrie’s inevitable demise Freyja pushed the last of the Valkyries out of certain death, as gungnir pierced the heart of the goddess. Freyja laid upon the fields of Asgard having been struck down by the Allfather, as the last Valkyrie came to realize what had happened. She rushed to Lady Freyja, insistent on dying at her side like the rest of her fallen sisters. But Freyja proceeded to place a hand on the young Valkyries shoulder and spoke the words “bring them home” and cast the Valkyries soul to Midgard. As the Valkyrie plummeted from the heights of Asgard to the realm of Midgard, she was stripped of her wings, and her memories locked away. But one phrase echoed throughout her mind as she fell. She could hear Odin in a rage yelling “Find her!”

In the depth of night, a ship sailed through the ice cold waves of the northern sea. The crew of that ship looked to the sky to see the North Star, as it grew ever brighter and ever closer, suddenly it fell out of the sky and crashed into the ocean near their bow. Out of curiosity, the crew of The Amity, gazed into the water to see a crimson glow. They readied their weapons, when they saw a woman float to the surface and the crimson glow disappeared. She was brought aboard The Amity, and when asked her name she responded with the only thing she could remember. “I’m Finder.” The crew of The Amity treated her as one of their own, promising her safe passage to land. They had sailed for 6 days when a dark storm lingered on the horizon. As it made its approach, lightning scattered behind the wall of death, and the clash of thunder rang out over the waves. The storm quickly enveloped the amity. It’s crew panicking and fearful. Finder stood upon the bow, unafraid. Staring into the sky she began to remember. Getting glimpses of her life in Asgard, a hand mark on her shoulder begins to emit that crimson glow. Its light seems to calm the waves, and slow the winds. The crew of the amity slowly realize that they are no longer fighting the storm, and look to Finder as she parts the clouds to see land in the distance. The crew quickly begins to make haste for the land. The storm followed the ship as it approached the shores, but Thor could not bring his lightning to strike the amity. It was protected by the eye of the storm. Once the crew of the amity had arrived safely at their destination, the storm began to drift back out to the depths. Finder stepped off the ship to feel the sand between her toes and as she set foot on this new land, she heard a familiar voice speak into her soul.

“You are the guiding light. Protect the people, and bring them home”

The Valkyries had fallen. Freyja had perished. Now Finder stands alone atop the helm of the ship that had once given her sanctuary and respite. As the captain of the newly named ship Folkvangr, she vowed to protect those in need and guide the lost through the darkness, in hopes that they see the light.
