Lore

A dead body given life again by dark powers. Often such a creature is someone of high rank and great power striving for eternal life through the use of dark forces to bind their consciousness to various phylactery and thereby achieve a form of immortality. Unlike zombies, which are often depicted as mindless, part of a hivemind or under the control of another, a lich retains independent thought and is as intelligent as it was prior to its transformation. Liches are always powerful magic users and are often created through various schools of magic such as necromancy, hexcraft, black magic, Vooo Doo ect. Liches use these Magiks to access the Astral Plane, a cold and desolate void where spirits travel from the Material plane of the living to whatever afterlife awaits them. Through the Astral Plane liches can bind spirits to various corses creating undead hordes to do their bidding.

Lich Roles:

Necromancers: acolytes to the Lich Kings, all liches started off as necromancers. People of with great power in the art of necromancy. While not all aspire to become Lich Kings, all are welcome to the Trails of the Lich King. Necromancers are often undead however they lack a phylactry to preserve their mind and body in combat. Necromancers are recommended for the average Necromancy rnthusiast, ideal a for casual roleplay with no greater responsibility to upkeeping the scrolls of old.

Lich Kings/Queens: Liches who have dedicated their undead existence to the preservation of undead knowledge and survival. These former necromancers have become something far more powerful than ever. Lich Kings/Queens are Sages above all, their kingly status is more of an honorary title than an actual monarchy. Lich kings are given the use of phylactry and can sustain life when mortally wounded so long as their phylactry remain intact. Lich king is not a title given, but earned.

Demi-Lich: A Demi-Lich is an extremely rare varient of Lich that has used powerful magic to exterminate the need for a phylactery or corporiel form. No demi-liches have existed since the days of old. No knowledge of how to actually become a Demi-Lich has ever been discovered.

Trials of the Lich King

ATTENTION: The following is a title of honor, not a right as a lich or a prize as a combatant. THESE ARE NOT EASY TRIALS, THEY WILL TEST YOUR STREGNTH OF CHARACTER YOUR MIND AND SPIRIT If you cannot honor it or commit to it, then unfortunately it is not the title for you. The power of the Lich King is a gift one that very few people have, and even fewer deserve. Remember, lacking the gift is not belittling of yourself for the simple act of understanding your trials is telling of your stregnth of character. It is a statement of respect and gratitude to the honor of those who DO possess this gift however.

Basic Rules:

  • You must complete every trial, under supervision of the Lich Kings
  • If you do not understand these trials or rules you do not qualify
  • Most importantly, you cannot name yourself Lich King of a realm/unit/kingdom unless THEY name you king.

Before one can become Lich, one must first come to know and understand what it means TO be a Lich. First and Formost, Liches are not born they are made. forget any preconcieved notions you have about power, becoming a Lich is not an easy path for those seeking only glory. Liches are first and formost Undead sages, we are here to preserve the history of our kind and our craft. The Title of Lich King does not grant you kingly rights among other undead. You are an honored sage, not a politician or a celebrity. If you only seek the title of Lich King for the status, then I'm afraid you have already failed the Trials.

The Scrolls of Knowledge

Throughout the final years of their life (or the first years of their undeath) every necromancer must read every scroll within the corridors of the Great Library. The necromancer in question would then come forward to be tested by current lich kings in their knowledge of Undead history and lore. Once this test is completed the remaining Lich Kings will test the necromancer on his spellcraft and connection to the spiritual plane. If the Lich Kings find their spirit in balance with the will of undeath, then they shall be granted access to the Chalice of Power.

The Chalice of Power

(More to be added)Only after the Necromancer has proven their strength of mind and spirit will a necromancer be granted access to the Chalice. But only he who is deemed worthy of it's power may drink from it. Access to The Chalice does not grant access to it's power. Many unworthy candidates have tried to drink from the Chalice, and although it did grant them great strength, it would eventually consume their mind body and spirit. It is for this reason that the Chalice is hidden away, it is also for this reason that access is granted to the Chalice before one can drink it. A cup cannot show you the path to power, only you can.

The Sigil of the Lich

The Sigil of the Lich is a ancient glyph worn by all who claim the title of lich. The lemniscate Represents a Lich's desire to be infinite lifeforms, roaming for all eternity neither living or dead, knowing that every friend you make and everyone you ever loved will die before you do, and accepting you will see civilizations rise and fall. The eye represents a liches intellect and a liche's ability to stare at the void of death itself. The Star Represents the Astral Plane and a liches ability to tap into it's cosmic energies that empower their spellcraft. The Sigil itself was created by Hod, the God of Undeath. Hod giften his creations with the Sigil in hopes that they would continue to spread his undeath themselves. The Sigil itself is used as a sort of companion peice to a liches phylactery, binding the soul to an object and using corresponding sigil and corpse as a conduit for their consciousness. due to it's origins in ancient history, the sigil of the lich is found in the darker regions of various schools of magic. So while some liches began their origins in a castle under the training of a powerful warlock, and some on small island villages under the instruction of a witch doctor, all Liches know of the Sigil's power, it's meaning and it's origin.

A lich empowering a phylactery with their essence.

Garb Requirements:

  • phylactery: Items of the lich's choosing into which they imbue their soul, giving them immortality until the phylactery is destroyed.

Known Liches:

Lich King Theron - King of Fortriu, Theron is a Tiefling born in the portside town of Rubacava located in Blackfish Bay. To date he is the oldest "living" tiefling (and possibly the first), while he is not the first lich, he is among the first liches to exist, and eventually moved on to become the first Lich King. Theron is best known as leader to the Black Tempest Armada, a ruthless band of Pirates comprised of mostly undead and other various monsters.

Malazael - Necromancer
