D'januun (pronounced with a slight d sound, followed by jah-noon) is the plural for a type of Djinn / Jenn. These Djinn exist on an identical moral spectrum to humanity. They were created after angelic beings but before humans. D'januun were essentially a prototype for humanity. They had the same free will, but retained supernatural aspects similar to other deific beings. They were responsible for inspiration of art and science, but also responsible for madness and disease. They gave prophetic dreams, but also night terrors. Some tales are similar to how Prometheus of Greek myth gave mankind fire, in that they are benevolent towards humanity as a whole. Others are more like the stereotype, that they will give you "wishes" but at a great price. (Rather than the goofy Aladdin depiction for kids, it was actually much more close to how powerful beings give Warlocks powers in DnD and similar RPG's.)

Anyone who is incredibly talented in art and science, a "genius", if you will, but is also suffering from some form of mental disorder (depression, schizophrenia, ETC) is someone who can be said to be "touched by the Djinn." This is also why there is a lot of linguists that suspect a strong connection between the very word Genius and Genie / Djinn. Their great power came at a great price. This also does not mean that a form of a contract was made, that isn't always the case. Sometimes it can happen when someone is just a child. The Djinn did it for fun.

D'januun appear as burning fire without smoke, though they typically present themselves to humans disguised as a beautiful woman. They can possess a human, but this can be stopped if a special type of knife is thrown into the ground between the Djinn and the person. This sacred knife wards against the Djinn, and they tend to disappear afterwards. If the possession is not stopped, the Djinn cannot be exorcised from the human. Instead, many rituals allow the human to convene with their possessor, and they can negotiate terms. Sometimes, this means sharing the body at intervals. Other times, it means both spirits are co-piloting the body, and the human can be granted gifts of wisdom and forbidden knowledge for the price of sacrifices or their soul.
